First, you elected a President that just kept yelling "Hope" and "Change", and never telling you what to hope for that will change. That's stupid.
Next, you get all excited about universal healthcare, because you honestly believe that the government is hiding billions of dollars in a place like Fort Knox, and that it is finally ready to give a generous portion of it TO YOU.
WRONG! The government doesn't have a job. Oh wait, yes it does. It's job is to take money from YOU to pay for things that it wants to do. That's right. We're all broke America, and you are getting excited about the fact that the government is going to take more money from YOU, and give it to a whole lot of people who don't deserve it.
Are you a drug addict? No? Then you lose. You're getting money taken out of YOUR paycheck to pay for a drug addict's health care. And man, are overdoses expensive!
Are you on welfare, because you've made poor life decisions? No? You lose again. You get to pay for all the uneducated people who have nothing better to do then procreate and get wasted.
Do you have a job? Yes? Well not for long! Not only are you going to have to fork over a huge piece of your paycheck to pay for those mentioned above, but you may lose your job because your employer won't be able to stay profitable under the new healthcare system. Just look at Europe: 11% unemployment rates that perpetuate for YEARS. America's current unemployment rate? 10.4%. (and that's in the midst of a recession!). That means .6% of you have a LOT to look forward to!
Think about it America. However, I doubt you will, because YOU'RE STUPID.
Wow, it's been a while since I heard someone reify such racist and classist arguments to this extent...no wait, you're right, the fact that you were born into a well-to-do, white family FOR SURE means you're better than all of those stupid, worthless, lazy black people (hmmm...where have I heard that kind of language before...Oh right, from the advocates of slavery and Jim Crow) who were born into poverty...yeah DEFINITELY you have more a right to the money in your pocket, much of which you earned merely as a result of your status in society (read: Jane was born into a well-off white family in a nice neighborhood with a good school system...Jane got a good education and thus got into a good college which she could AFFORD because her parents had money...Jane then got a good job; Sarah, on the other hand, was born into an impoverished black family in a neighborhood with an under-funded public school [oh, wait, why is that? because racist white people like you thought it would be 'unfair' to use your hard-earned money to fund such schools] and thus didn't get a good education [not to mention she didn't have much time to attend class since she had to help her mother, who works 3 jobs, take care of the other kids and make some money], which meant she didn't get into college [nor could she have afforded it anyway], so she couldn't get a high-paying job)
ReplyDeleteNow the wonderful thing is I can also predict EXACTLY how you will respond to this post: By denying that you are racist and classist, and by spouting out a bunch of arguments drawn from the hegemonic discourse of competitive consumer citizenship (look it up)...oh, and of course, by calling me an 'idiot' and bleeding heart hippie, ignorant, yada yada and finally, by deleting this post
Ah, the new fad - calling principled opposition and a desire for personal responsibility "racist." This is the most blatant ad hominem comment I've seen, and I read the latest from Frank Rich. Man, get over yourself and quit buying Marxist drivel.
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to play the "THAT'S RACIST" game here, then I'll just have to do one better. Aren't you the one that is racist? The post makes no mention of race. It talks of drug addicts and chronic welfare recipients. You, commenter, are the only one talking about race, so clearly you are the only one that seems to associate negative moral and economic decisions with a particular race. Within driving distance of where I live there are plenty of places where the majority of drug addicts and welfare recipients are whites, not blacks. But hey, I can't pretend to change your racist attitudes overnight.
BTW - Cool post. I like the grumpy face.
The ironic thing, is that I had a particular group of WHITE people in mind that I know while writing this post!
ReplyDeleteRead Clarence Thomas's memoirs ( First African American Supreme Court Justice..... look it up), and you might change your mind about fiscal conservativism being at odds with the affluance of black impoverished communities.
